TikTok and WeChat banned in India
The Indian government has banned at least 59 Chinese apps in the country for non-compliance with privacy and security policies. The apps include popular video-making apps Tiktok, WeChat, Hello, Share It, UC Browser, Shopping App Club Factory. Violating the Terms of Use, compromising user privacy and being used as spyware or malware. After which the government decided to ban the apps.
The Indian media NDTV says that the apps have already been blocked in the country as a measure. The Economic Times quoted a statement issued by the government as saying that the government has banned the apps under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. The government has exercised its powers under the 2009 rules.
A government source said the apps had long been in violation of the country's security and privacy policies. As a result, there was a risk of various information smuggling in the country. That is why action has been taken even though it is late. Among the apps that have been banned in the very popular Tiktok, UC Browser. There are also Likee, Clash of Kings, Virus Cleaner, Weibo, WeChat, Vigo Live, Selfie City, Cam Scanner and many more.
After that, various quarters called for a boycott of Chinese products all over India. At that time, the Indian government banned these Chinese apps.
