Asus's VivoBook series is quite popular in the market for various reasons, including light build, good quality battery backup. The details of the S15 S531FL model of the A series are in this review. In continuation of this, this year has brought some new versions. These models of the S15 S531 series will have processors ranging from 4 to 16 GB of RAM and Core i7. Apart from this, there are some differences in storage, depending on the version. Among the laptops in this series, the good and bad of the 'Asus VivoBook S15 S531FL' model will be highlighted in today's review.

Before knowing the details, let's take a brief look at the configuration and features of the laptop

  • 8th generation Core i5 processor, the maximum speed of 3.9 GHz
  • 8 GB DDR-4 RAM
  • 15.8 inch display, resolution 1920 * 1080
  • 1 terabyte hard drive and 256 MB SSD
  • 2 GB Nvidia MX-250 graphics
  • USB 3 and 2 together 3 ports, 1 C-type port
  • Webcam
  • Bluetooth, WiFi, fingerprint sensor

Design

The laptop is 1.7 cm thick and weighing 1.8 kg. The lightweight laptop will be available in Transparent Silver, Gun Metal, Cobalt Blue, Moss Green and Punk Pink. On the laptop's left side, there are 2 USB 2.0 ports and on the right side, there is 1 USB 3.1 port, 1 C type port, ADM iPort, 3.5mm audio jack, and micro SD card reader.

Its body is made of good quality aluminum, and the build quality is quite good. No unwanted spaces were left in the structure. So there will be no sound when taken by hand or light pressure. It can be easily carried for being light. The size of the display is 15.6 inches, but for many, it can be a problem. The mechanism of the device has been slightly changed. It is bent 3.5 degrees from the plane. This facilitates typing and can easily dissipate heat.

Keyboard and Touchpad

The laptop has a backlit LED keyboard, and the buttons are quite comfortable. Users can easily get used to it. There is also a lot of space in the middle of the button. For this reason, if you press one button while typing, it is less likely to press the other button. In addition to the regular buttons, the keyboard has a separate number pad.

Its touchpad is fairly comfortable. According to the budget, it should have been a little better. The touchpad has a fingerprint sensor that can be used to enjoy other security features, including unlocking the laptop.

Display

The laptop uses a 15.6 inch full HD display with a resolution of 1920 x 1080. The amount of bezel around the display is quite small, and the body-to-display ratio is 6 percent. So as interesting as it looks, the display also looks quite large. Wide-view up to 18 degrees from the display.

Although the display is sharp and bright enough, it lags in color reproduction. Even if you want to watch a video with good graphics, you will not get a very satisfactory performance. Again, it looks a bit black from the side. However, considering the budget, it can be ignored because the displays of other laptops in this budget are of the same shape. The brightness of the display is quite good. It can do a lot of work in the sunlight during the day.

Performance

The laptop uses an Intel Core i55275U processor with speeds ranging from 1.6 to 3.90 GHz. RAM has 8 GB of DDR-4 technology. In addition to the primary storage of 1 terabyte, it has the opportunity to use 256 MB SSD.

Able to give good enough performance overall. Having SSD will ensure much better quality performance than other laptops without SSD on such a budget. As an operating system, it contains the home edition of Windows-10.

Those who use laptops for daily professional work or study can put it on their list of favorites. It allows you to do everyday tasks (such as creating documents, presentations), editing photos and browsing the web without any hassle. You can also edit small videos or play light to medium quality games. On the other hand, to ensure good quality graphics, the laptop uses Nvidia GeForce MX250, which has 2 GB of memory. Its performance can also be said to be good according to the budget.

Port and Connectivity

This model has three regular USB ports - two with USB 2.0 technology and the rest with USB 3.1 technology. There is a micro SD card. However, there is no regular size memory card reader. VGA has been replaced by an HDMI port, and the device will support UFI versions 5 and 6 of the latest technology. There is the latest technology, Bluetooth 5.0.

Audio

The speakers are at the very back. Audio quality is quite good, and loudness is satisfactory. Asus Sonic Master has been used to get better audio experience. The sound is reduced when the speaker is used on the back of the bed. It has a 3.5mm audio jack that can be used to connect speakers, earphones, or a microphone.

Cooling

I want the cooling system to be good to ensure the performance of the laptop. With that in mind, it is also standard. Its liquid cooling system will help keep the device cool and expel heat quickly. Noise levels are tolerable due to the improved cooling fan.

Battery Life

It has a 42-watt-hour three-cell lithium prismatic battery. Comes with a 90-watt capacity charger. However, the current Craze C type charger was not given. Due to the quick charge technology, it will take only 49 minutes to get 80 percent charged. It will take one and a half to two hours to be fully charged. Once fully charged, the laptop will give a backup of 5 to 6 hours with moderate use.

Packaging, Price and Warranty Benefits

A free backpack will be available with this laptop. Asus Bangladesh will offer a two-year warranty, and the warranty for battery and charger is one year. The current market price of this version is around Rs 6,000. Due to the difference in RAM, storage, processor, graphics, and display size, some more versions of this laptop will be available at more or less than this price.

Good at a glance

  • Good performance
  • Good battery back up
  • Quick charging
  • Slim build
  • A good keyboard for comfortable typing
  • Good cooling system

Bad at a glance

  • Absence of C type charging
  • Medium performance of the display
  • Less satisfaction in high graphics gaming
